FLY53R135 Aut/Win 06

FLY53R135 as long been a favourite of ours but it took us a while to get it on site mainly due to both Fly53R135 and us being to busy to sort things, but we eventually did and we are now big buddies. There seems to have been some confusion over the name for Fly52R135 not surprised so here goes. The name is Fly Series but Will the founder being the old punk rocker that we love and know wanted that design look to the name so borrowed from the old punk rock diy idea of Lettrasets and using numbers when you run out of letter so the name became FLY53R135. Get it? A lot of people haven't, it's not complicated so once again Will in his wisdom dropped bits of the name and it's now FLY53 not sure what the 53 meant to stand for now ;-( oh god now I'm confused. Afrika Bambaataa - Planet Rock

We often get asked about designs on t-shirts so here’s a bit of background on the Fuct Planet rock design.

Urban spaceman Afrika Bambaataa and producer Arthur Baker, plus musician John Robie, were the trio behind a musical revolution called "Planet Rock", Bambaataa's 1982 single with Soul Sonic Force. On "Planet Rock", Afrika Bambaata used the melody from Kraftwerk’s "Trans Europe Express" over the distinctive 808 beat. Here's a link to the video of Planet Rock

Jaxter Artist Awards

The Jaxter Artist Awards is an Australian based, international t-shirt design competition. The theme is "sound" and the winner will receive US$2,000. Entries close on 31 July 2006.

20% of all proceeds are donated to the Inspire Foundation Australian youth suicide charity.

DVS Skate Tour

The DVS tour is currently working its way round the UK after visiting France, Spain, Germany and Belgium. They have just made it to London after tearing up Leeds, Sheffield, Stoke on Trent and Milton Keynes and there is a demo at the Xbox park 28/06 at 6pm onwards for those of you that can make it. It will be well worth the effort, with the likes of Zerred Basset, Jeron Wilson, Torey Pudwill, Mark Baines, Andrew Brophy and Kristian Bomholt!

Denim is Everything

D.I.E / Denim Is Everything is a comic book version of life, a fairground mirror of society. We adopt and adapt mythical characters who reflect individuals who appear in our lives. It’s a world where difference is tolerated, not prejudiced against or feared be that race, belief, behaviour or species.

Spring/summer 2006 will be the label’s 4th season, which now includes full range of men’s ware, we ordered a bit late so only managed to get t-shirts and caps but they are nice design with a strong gothic, horror humorous feel to them. Mash Culture

The term Mash Culture, popularised by urban menswear expert David Gensler, is about a disregard for big brands and celebrity/artist endorsements. It's for people who seek out individuality in their fashion, creating their own unique looks and mixing styles and subverting trends.

Hip hop and it’s various offshoots are the key influence in mash culture. Eio are a group of Goldsmiths graduates with a versatile eye towards art and design. Opposed to the regurgitation of licensed print imagery and half-baked design, Eio treads a line between high-end street wear, directional style and work of art, with a focus on bold intricate patterns and graphics, with experimental cuts and print styles. El Toro

It was 2003, when the first El Toro stickers were put up in the streets of Philadelphia. In about a 2 year time span, he had saturated the streets of Philadelphia with El Toro with not just stickers, but also with markers and paint. With a help of other artists around the world, he has stickers up all over the globe. Now along with MethodsNYC you can wear the El Toro logo. Schwipe

Schwipe - The Savages are Loose is the latest clothing collection form our Australian friends and The Urban Shop delivery landed in the UK on Friday so will be expected soon. We are excited about Schwipe not only are we one of very few feeling it enough to stock it in the UK but it's really hard to buy even over the internet and it's a really nice very different range which these days is good because UK fashion seems to be in a rut. The Schwipe guys are self-proclaimed "ambassadors of unintelligent absurdity" which reflects well in their designs.
