Drop Some Know1edge

A new delivery of Know1edge has just landed on our fine shores and we check out the man behind Know1edge to find out how it all started.

Brian Siswojo is the undisputed king of the Hong Kong street scene. With his shop 8FIVE2, 8FIVE2 Distribution, Know1edge brand and running numerous events, he has a hold on Hong Kong and takes his influence to the world.

Brian Siswojo started skateboarding when he was 14, it has become his life. Brian takes up the story “I skate pretty much on a daily basis. I was sponsored by a local skateboard shop called Now N Later in 1991 and later on with Airwalk in 1994, I remember it was NTS, the hardest skateboard shoes to skate on, there’s always a reason why a company closes down. As so many aspire to do, I started working many jobs in the hopes of saving enough to open my own business. In 1998, I filmed and edited Hong Kong’s very first skateboarding/urban culture video called Hollieday with not only Hong Kong’s finest skateboarders but also, LMF (Hong Kong’s first and most original Hip Hop group), Michael Lau, DJ Tommy, etc. The video premiered along with an LMF performance and a good 1,000 people showed up to support the event.

I met Alyasha Owerka Moore in 1999 at a skateboard spot, this is when skateboarding gave back to me. Aly handed me his business card and the moment I saw the logo, I decided to put in all of my savings to invest in my very own company, 8FIVE2 Distribution. I started out of the living room of my apartment out of boxes for those of you who still remember. I remember asking Aly if he would support me 110% if I started my own company and distribute Alphanumeric. He said YES and since then he has, THANK YOU Aly!!

We started selling Alphanumeric from just 2 stores to 12 stores within a ten month span in Hong Kong. It became the best selling brand of that time, no other brand even come close. It was then that the owners created a position for me as Sales & Marketing Director for the Asia region where I opened the doors of South East Asian.

I’ve always felt that Asia in general lacked some kind of authenticity in the origins of street art, skateboarding, and music. Although a niche market that has not been widely accepted by the mass, I opened a skate/street fashion shop that could properly merchandise a full collection while being informative on the brand history to the customers. 8FIVE2SHOP opened its doors in 2001 and has been apart of the transformation in Hong Kong’s street fashion/skate scene.

I started Know1edge, in 2004 from wanting to do special collaborations with friends. What started off as a small line of t-shirt collaborations quickly grew to a full line of menswear, accessories; premium denim, leather garments, knitted apparel, Swiss movement watches, etc." the rest is history or will be tomorrow.

We sponsor loads of people that you probably never hear about but Juttla is making big moves recently Mary Ann Hobbs has been plying his latest offering Sub Zero, here’s a little bit about him and some image of Juttla rocking Arcus he’s a name worth keeping an eye on always doing something different and original.

sturban clothing sponsors Drifter Jon

We like to try and support interesting people who are doing what they do for the love of it and are basically into sturban clothing and that's how we came across Jon Beezy, here's his bio in his words, we like him but before we go into it we found out 2 interesting facts. His track car does 5 MPG, and for every event he spends £400 on tyres, and that's why this guy needs free clothes from us;-)

Name - Jon Beezy.
Age - 23.
Special Skills - Drifting, Fitting into kids t-shirts, BMX and MX.
Vehicle - Mazda RX7 FC3S, Viper 140 pit bike, Federal division BMX, Full race 1380 mini or whatever's at hand.
Hometown – Ashford, Kent

From the age of 5 I started getting into the motorsport scene in MX and Trials. Done this till the age of 15 where I stopped and was getting big into riding the BMX all over the UK. By this time I was looking into cars and growing a big interest into the Retro car scene. So I started a full race spec Mini which taught me a lot about building a good track car. Back in June 05 I went up to Silverstone to see a drift demo with top drivers from Japan, that was that, I was now hooked so looked about and saved up and got a 200sx s13. Then I booked my first track day in November 06 and continued this throughout 07.

November 07 I decided to enter the Drift-racing competition. I managed this by getting given a wild card entry by the organisers as it was my first competition. Went into qualifying and ended up qualifying joint first place with my team mate. Then into the battles pulled through and made the finals where I ended up finishing second.

A good finish for my first competition, got approached by the organiser for JDM Allstars and asked if I wanted a wild card entry for one of the top championships in Europe. By taking this it put me in a class with the top European drivers.
Knowing this I knew I had to up my game so went out and got a pro spec RX7 it was the only one about as they are a rare car. At the monument I’m the only driver running one of these retro drift cars in Europe.

March 15th 08 Competed in round 1 and ended up qualifying 8th and top 16 finish due to break failure.

April 19th/20th 08 Then drove over to Ireland and done the first round in the Prodrift European series, and it was there that the car went bang.

Lucky Hayward Rotary’s pulled a sponsorship deal.

The cars is having a full rebuild and Porting, also will be running a GT35r turbo, 1860cc injectors and a new map, power fingers will be about 450hp @1bar of boost.
The car will be done in time for the next JDM Allstars round 2 Wembley London on August 9th '08.

Join the SubSpecies

The story so far............

Breaking free from a maximum security zoo back in 2002, after ten years of torment & abuse Thade & Ceaser decided they were f#$@ed off being restricted from their true design talents. Being forced to work for big players in the clothing industry, picking up the odd banana award on the way. Their inner flair was being restricted by the evil empire of mass market clothing. Still wanted for crimes against the clothing fraternity, these monkeys disappeared into the jungle to lick their wounds & re-group. They began to create the evolution revolution, a new breed of subspecies which its members adopt new styles that are alien to the mainstream. A subspecies is a race within a species that shows identifiable characteristics different from other subspecies. On their journey they stumbled upon a strange monkey called Cornelius. He was a very talkative & friendly ape who had already envisaged a revolution in the cosmos. Between the three they concocted a plan for universal domination but still staying true to their beliefs. Then along came Nim. The youngster of the troop who was being imprisoned in a going nowhere but the grave job bottling natural spring water. Another greed filled industry that sell gods own creation for mass value profit. He escaped and after paying off some gorillas to find this new revolt. Joining the natural selection gave the troop knowledge into juvenility & what they perceive from this torrid existence..

Our time has come so join the evolution revolution and let us produce a new breed of subspecies .
