Korgee presents T.I - ‘Live From The Trap’

There’s not that many GOOD T.I mixtapes out there in the market-place but trust me US DJ Korgee has really delivered a CD that made me like T.I even more than I did! Twenty-one tracks deep it features some excellent unreleased tracks as well as three killer collaborations with Def Jam president Jay-Z! It features some serious disses to Ludacris, as well as some real nice freestyles too. ‘Problems’, ’Jackin For Beats’ and ‘I Refuse To Lose’ prove why he one of the most talked about Southern Rappers at the moment. Korgee has done a real good job here as he showcases Atlanta’s new boy in town. Make sure you peep for this if ya like ya music Southern fried!

WOLFTOWN RECORDINGS & S.P.C UK Presents K-RINO - ‘A Lyrical Legend’

It’s no secret that UK DJ’s & CEO’s of Wolftown ‘LATE & Tricksta’ are big fans of everything SPC. If you look back in the history you’ll see that LATE & K-Rino collaborated on a Tricksta produced beat back in 2002 with the now classic ‘Cold World’ track from LATE’s ‘International Rhyme Spittin EP’. K-Rino is like an ‘unsung hero’ of the Houston Rap scene and together with the Geto Boys rapper Scarface pretty much started the whole movement. Here LATE & Tricksta pay homage with a mixed compilation full of rare and deleted songs, UK collobo’s and hard-to-obtain songs. This CD shows the full diversity of K-Rino as it features laid-back groovers, deeper lyrical onslaughts and even some killer guests such as Z-Ro, Trae, Ganxsta Nip, AC Chill (R.I.P), Ruff Eyque, K.O, Kuwait and others. Wolftown scream from the top of buildings that K-Rino is a lyrical legend, and to be honest after hearing this CD I totally agree. Big thangs!

Akon - ‘In My Ghetto’

This rare underground album from urban music’s new voice is in my opinion the best Akon CD out there to buy. Miami’s Rick Ross jumps up on ‘Cross The Line’ the opening track to great effect. Akon’s down to earth lyrics keep the album gully throughout but his smooth vocal tones inject soul too giving us the best of both worlds. Other killer tracks include ‘Snitch’ featuring Obie Trice and the awesome ‘Kalifornia’ which see’s Smoke-A-Lot Records/The Regime CEO and Luniz rapper Yukmouth team up with Monstah Ganja for a brand new anthem. Also peep for ‘Hustler’, ‘Ride On ‘em’, ‘I Promise and ‘Work It’, which too are all really good slices of music. Akon is so real, and it’s like he spits street lyrics but sings them. I’m not really a mad Akon fan, but after checking for this CD I’m now addicted to Konvict Music. Massively huge!

Red Cafe - ‘The Menu’

Do these two never stop? (LOL!!) I mean the amount of CD’s that Wolftown Recordings are unleashing they must easily be the most prolific Hip-Hop record label in the UK. Here they showcase Akon’s latest signing Red Café, a man who is creating a real buzz Stateside with his tracks being the new soundtrack for the streets. ‘Ice Cold’ and ‘Click, Clack (Featuring Akon)’ and ‘Still Thuggin’ are my choice cuts, but people I know will go mad when they here the awesome ‘Diddy Bop Remix’ with Fabolous, Kardinal, Cocoa Chancelle and Cash Money’s Currency. Other tracks drop hefty too with Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, 50Cent, Hell Rell, St. Laz, Lil Wayne, Uncle Murder, Big Cas and Freeway all featuring. This is such a brilliant CD and if you like your New York street music then you need to buy this. So go on, jump on board the Late & Tricksta train and get with it. Red Café is the future.

Royal Mail Strike Action

Has some of you may be aware Royal Mail maybe on strike Friday, to you this may mean that deliveries will have some short delay in reaching you. We must add that we have used other delivery companies over the 8 years we have been in business and have found RM to be the best they do loose the occasional parcel but all in all they offer a good service. We have also found that our customers prefer deliveries with RM rather than a carrier has their branches are normally more convenient and they do other a fast, reliable and efficient service (never thought I would say that)

HERE IS WHAT RM ARE SAYING
We are hugely disappointed to confirm that the CWU has given us notice of strike action. The strike will take place on Friday June 29th, beginning at 3am.

What does it mean for our customers (RM)

Access to Royal Mail services is available on strike days - but limited to a single collection from street boxes and the vast majority of Post Offices. Collections may be earlier than the advertised times

We will attempt to deliver Special Delivery items, but this cannot be guaranteed, and so the money-back guarantees on these services will be suspended for items posted on Thursday June 28th

Special Delivery items posted on Friday June 29th will be guaranteed to be delivered on Monday July 2nd

Parcelforce's guaranteed services will remain unaffected

Royal Mail's to Door and Sameday services remain unaffected by the strike

All other mail services will be subject to delay

Royal Mail aims to return to normal as quickly as possible. Having consulted with our customers, we will deal with the backlog of mail in date order, which is the fairest way of clearing the backlog.

US AGAIN
We must add that this is the first of series of strikes that will be announced if they cannot resolve this matter

Live Street Art Auctions

Live street art auction, evry Friday 6/13/20/27 July 2007 @ Cargo London, 6pm-9pm, FREE ENTRY.

ALL PROCEEDS TO CHARITY

LADY PINK
Lady Pink was born in Ecuador, but raised in NYC. She started writing graffiti at the age of 15 and soon was well known as the only female capable of competing with the boys in the graffiti subculture. Pink painted subway trains from the years 1979-1985. She is considered a cult figure in the hip-hop subculture since the release of the independent motion picture ‘Wild Style’ in 1982, in which she had a starring role. While still in high school she began exhibiting paintings in art galleries and at the age of 21 had her first solo exhibit at the Moore College of Art. As a leading participant in the rise of graffiti-based art, Lady Pink’s canvasses have entered important art collections such as the Whitney Museum, the MET in NYC, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of the City of NY, the Groningen Museum of Holland and many others. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout the world in noteworthy places such as The Bronx Museum, The Queens Museum, Le Case D’Arte in Milan, Lisson Gallery in London, Inhound Museum in Geneva, Sidney Janis Gallery in NYC, and the Federal Reserve Board in Washington DC.

Lady Pink will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 20, 2007. She will be donating her auction proceeds to Save the Children.

TASSO
TASSO, who first emerged from East Germany's prolific graffiti scene, is a master of illusion. His photorealist graffiti has been known to stop traffic through the general public's sheer amazement at his innovative foolery. Using a spray can in place of an art brush, TASSO takes over public facades including houses and trains, creating masterpieces characterised by highly detailed optical illusion. An extraordinary and influential artist, TASSO’s inimitable depictions transform anything his art tools touch into realistic projections of the modern world. TASSO is a founding member of the 'Ma 'Claim crew, one of the most respected graffiti collectives in Germany.

TASSO will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 6, 2007. He will be donating his auction proceeds to Save the Children.

XENZ
Xenz, an artist with over 18-years experience in graffiti culture, is the UK’s most celebrated freestyle artist. While many of his contemporaries in the early-nineties were following the traditional rules of the original wildstyle graffiti masters, Xenz, having developed an extraordinary cohesion between mind, memory and spray can, would instead walk up to a city wall and paint a landscape from his imagination. Combining fantasy with strong architectural and soft natural landscapes, he transforms the city’s streets into both art canvas and gallery using the spray can as his medium. Doing for 21st century street art what Monet did for 19th century fine art, Xenz’s original approach to his medium and innovations in the study of freestyling have seen the graffiti scion break many of the rules that had been set by earlier generations. Xenz is widely considered to be the UK’s most important graffiti artist after Banksy.

Xenz will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 6, 2007. He will be donating his auction proceeds to the British Lung Foundation.

NICK WALKER
Nick Walker is one of the most acclaimed artists to have emerged from Bristol’s stencil art scene of the early 1980s. As an early pioneer of the movement, Nick became infamous for his EGO street tag, before evolving into a new incarnation - the Apish Angel. Today, Nick combines intricate stencil images with his freehand methods, which pushes the boundaries of the contemporary art movement. He is one of the most sought-after and respected artists working in the industry today. Nick’s work has appeared on films including Judge Dredd, Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut and many more. He has exhibited at an impressive list of international galleries and his work is often published in the most high profile graffiti books.

Nick Walker will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 20, 2007. Nick will be donating his auction proceeds to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

PART 2
Legendary artist, Part 2 is the founder of photorealist graffiti in the UK and the mind behind the first national and international graffiti crews, Aerosol Nation and Ikonoklast. One of the few graffiti writers working in the UK in the 1980s, the Yorkshire based artist evolved the original wild style lettering of New York that had filtered through to the UK, manipulating his spray can to create a unique style, known as photorealistic graffiti. The artist’s career spans three decades, with each new style laying down pathways and inspiring his contemporaries worldwide. His early works on the graffiti scene plus his notorious disposable graffiti project known as Serialtype, have been widely documented. Part 2 is also the founder and producer of acclaimed music trio, New Flesh.

Part 2 will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 13, 2007. He will be donating his auction proceeds to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

HERAKUT
Herakut is a symbiosis of the aliases Hera and Akut, two graffiti artists from Frankfurt and Erfurt, Germany. Their collaboration started in 2004, when they both were invited to paint at the Urban Art Festival Sevilla in Spain, though to everyone including themselves it was clear that their styles of character painting had nothing in common whatsoever. And that has not changed a bit. When Akut and Hera paint together, they do shift work. After a background done by Hera, Akut creates a detailed layer for a face without knowing what kind of body Hera will add the end. The reason for mixing these two different signatures is simply for the element of surprise. The final picture always seems slightly schizophrenic, because a character by Herakut always contains two different moods at the same time. Their work has appeared at international exhibitions and they have been published in several book titles.

Hera & Akut will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 27, 2007. They will be donating their auction proceeds to Save the Children.

STORMIE MILLS
Stormie Mills started out with graffiti in the streets around the world, forming a particularly intimate style which can be seen in the faces of the portraits and depictions of people, which characterise many of his works today. When he moved to canvas, the inherently rich texture of his graffiti transcended to his paintings with the layering developing another dimension to his work. He had his first commission in 1988, and has spent the last 12 years working on commissioned paintings and murals throughout Australia, Asia, the United States and Europe. Having exhibited in numerous group collections, Stormie presented his first solo exhibit in 1999 to critical acclaim, with all of his works selling within the first ten minutes. As well as being profiled in various international arts publications, his prolific talent was acknowledged in the 2002 Perth Art Award, Western Australia’s most prestigious visual art competition. Mills was awarded a commendation for his painting ‘370 William St.’

Stormie Mills will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 13, 2007. He will be donating his auction proceeds to the Variety Club Children’s Charity.

MR KERN
Mr Kern is a French graffiti artist who has spent most of his writing career in Spain. Since 1994, his works have been loaded with reactionary messages on globalization and social issues which he aims squarely at the large, unethical corporations. His humorous observations and presentations of this subject matter have built him international notoriety, and his anti-McDonalds paintings are now recognized worldwide. He has exhibited in cities around the world and his works have been published in various art books. He currently has a book out called ‘Le Cendart’ (‘ashtray’ – so called given his interest in the chemical substances added to cigarettes), which offers a retrospective look at his work in Barcelona between 1999 and 2004.

Mr Kern will be appearing at Evolving Styles on July 27, 2007. Charity TBC.

LIX - Hip Hop Interview

Where are you from and what was it like growing up there?
I Lived in Seattle, Washington most of my life before moving to California for a little while. Growing up out there is hard, because there’s no Hollywood or New York City anywhere near us. If you want to be in the entertainment industry you really have to move to get discovered, or you join a gang to help build up enough money and unity to make some kind of noise. It's really tough. But everyone on the westcoast is very open -minded, and we love to party.

How did you get your name and is there a story behind it?
Yes, there is definitely a story behind my name. When me and my friends would have parties, I would always mix up different kind of alcohol, and give special names to the drinks. I would drive the girls wild. So, my friends would tell me I made good elixirs. So, my friends said that should be my rap name. So, I started calling myself Elixjah, after the prophet Elijah But, a lot of people couldn't pronounce elixjah (pronounced elix-sa) the right way, so they started calling me E-Lix for short, then it finally became just Lix.

Was there a situation or a person who inspired you to rap?
Yes, LL Cool J really made rapping look cool, then there was Snoop Dogg. Seeing him and Dre' in the Deepcover video, really did it for me. Ice Cube and the Lenchmob had a cool message also, and N.W.A made me want to become a Gangster.

Tell us about your latest release.
My latest release is called Thug Passion : The Under Dogg. I named it after the late and great Tupac Shakur. Because to be a thug, you truly have to have some kind of passion for this entertainment industry, or it will swallow you whole. The reason it has two titles, The Under Dogg, is because I am also Under the Dogg Pound Imprint, and a lot of people don't want to see the Dogg Pound influence hip-hop anymore, so I feel like we are the Under Dogg's that the people are rooting for.

What do you prefer, playing live, recording in the studio or battling?
I prefer playing live. I like the crowd participation, and the energy. But, the studio is like my second home, and once in a while a good battle is healthy.

How would you describe your personality? What do you enjoy doing?
My personality is very aggressive, and confident. A lot of people say that I have an ego, but I don't. I am just very comfortable with who I am, and I speak to people with authority. I enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the clubs in New York, travelling, reading, and editing video. I am also a big dvd collector, I hate to rent movies so, I try to buy them right away. Other than that I work out, party, and flirt with cute girls.

How did you go about setting up independently?
Well, first I had to figure out what I wanted out of owning my own record label. Next, I incorporated in the US, and got my upc codes. Next, I looked online to see what the best options were for self-distribution, and I hollered at Snoop Dogg and JT the Bigga Figga to distribute my album for a while. Then, when that was done, I decided to go global, so now I am patiently waiting for itunes, napster, rhapsody, and cdbaby to upload my music to their stores in the next week or so.

What’s your favourite clothing label?
Right now, I wear a lot of Rocawear. I also look for Snoop Dogg clothing, Phat Farm, and Makaveli Brand. I like clothes that I can relate to. LRG has hot gear, and so does Bapes. I will start wearing them soon.

Forget the budget, what would be your dream collobo?
Well, I have always wanted to work with Snoop, Daz and Kurupt on an album. That is my biggest goal. I also want to work with Nelly furtado, Young Jeezy, and Jay-Z. I would like to get a few Doctor Dre' beats, and have Christina Milian on a few hooks. But my dream collab would have been working with Aaliyah. She is something special.

With so many artists out there, what are you doing different to get heard?
Well, I don't think there are many things a person can do to get heard anymore. Everything has already been done. I let my spirit guide me, and try to make some damn good music. My music appeals more to women, and street thugs. So, my message should melt women’s hearts, and let thugs know that I’m as real as it gets. Some say I could be the next Pac - Like character. We'll see.

Now is your chance to get something off ya chest! Anything getting you down or any opinions you need to voice?
Yes, I'm afraid of the future, ya'll respect the one that got shot, I respect the shooter. I don't promote black on black violence. I want everyone to try as hard as they can, to get the word n*gger out of there songs, and vocabulary, and I want people to understand the code of the streets a lot more clearly. It was designed for a reason.

Can you feel it Luke?

I remember back in ‘95 when I was finishing Uni and preparing my final paper, a philosophical overview of the classical Chinese text “I Ching” and it’s relationship to change management in western thinking. Well for me it was as simple as black and white with bits of grey thrown in but to the lecturers, as one put it “it’s a foreign language”. He even went so far as to say I needed to include a piece at the front which explained the terms that I was using as they weren’t English, I was very confused so as prompted wrote a simple text of 1000 words outlining the basics in plain and simple language, they were clueless at this point they asked me to change my thesis and I kicked back and said ah well, if you can grasp it I’ve no real need to explain it and dropped the course. So where’s all this leading? Hold on, it’s about change and the daily flux of life.

So the “I Ching” basically believes that if something exists in the same time and space it’s connected (synchronicity) classical management theory states cause and effect. Change in management is something that has to be handled very carefully because people, it is believed, don’t like change. My argument is that the whole of life is about change and even our very existence is based on us breathing which is change and that chaos is a state of not changing rather than the management idea that chaos is brought about by change. This later got altered to chaos bounded by stability, which I think touches on the ideas I was arguing but let’s stick with basics.

So what has this got to do with anything? Well it’s about the flux of life, the coming and goings of fashion, the product life of a company or product, the “be nice to people on the way up as you’ll meet them on the way back down”, theory.

Example 1 - Inside prints
It was something we did way back with the Headstrong Eco design. Bristol based graffiti artist Eco did the Gothic Time Machine design and it was big bold and in ya face, we had been doing a few t-shirt designs and wanted to do something different and thought the design was a bit too in ya face so try it on the inside and as you wash the t-shirt rather than fade it shows thought more. Over the next year a few other companies started to follow suit and produce inside out prints, Element Skateboards, Obey, and Mada to name a few, but as the flux of time goes by 2 years down the line I’m on the high street just cruising seeing what’s happening there and wow inside out prints in a very big commercial shop at £2-3. A prime example of how design and acceptability changes with time. They also had t-shirts with prints on them that mentioned roots, reggae and dancehall. Has it really hit the mainstream? I’ve not seen it but you can buy the t-shirts.

Example 2 - You’ll meet them on the way back down
About 4 years back we approached a UK clothing company that shall remain nameless but do lots of camo, we were into the design and the company and who they are associated with they even had Future 2000 designing for them! Anyway we were talking with them about stocking the brand and they certainly did not want to be on an internet site. Well now they are selling to internet sites (we wont stock them) but what’s even more amazing is, what was a UK premium brand and ahead of the game fashion scene worldwide is now also selling its clothing online. God forbid but their jackets priced £100-200 are on the high street in discount, price cutting fashion outlets for £40-50. Anybody want to buy mine?

So as you can see the flux of life and small change effects everything, even the fashion and clothing world, as it was once coined “a butterfly flaps its wings in an Amazon rainforest and it rains in Wolverhampton” or something along those lines. We try and keep ahead of these changes and in so have to change as well but we always keep in mind another old Chinese story “bui gee” or “finger pointing” which was used once in a Bruce Lee movie, don’t miss the moon for looking at the finger that is pointing to it.

Example 3 - Fingers Pointing at the Moon
The Urban Shop is about to launch a new website in colab with Wolftown’s Tricksta and Battle Emcee’s Wolve. It’s set to be THE UK hip hop web base. Others may only see that but they are seeing the finger pointing at what it really is, a symbol of the trust between the 3 parties and the mutual respect that’s been developed over the years. From The Urban Shop’s point of view it’s even more, as it’s a chance for us to put back and to give a home for UK individuals that are perusing their dreams and goals against all oppositions and still coming out battling and doing it year upon year for little more than respect.

So back to the start and up to date with the master Jedi “Luke can you feel a disturbance in the force?”

Algarve

Just returned from the Algrave and here's a litle stencil I snapped a couple of crews AW and DS have killed most of the area with tags.

Digital Advert

For a while we have been asking if anybody had an video clips we could use, music and even if anybody could produce us a short video, well the response was massive and the outcome can now be seen.

The whole thing was to create a digital advert for a new art magazine that is being launched. So we created these rough categories i.e. hip hop, streetwear, artist clothing and skateboarding which is something we don’t really like to pigeon hole stuff but it does help at times. Anyway take a look at the page, the video clips and listen to the music and the is even a bit of art on the page. Personally I quite like the page and how it works it’s sort of a minimal home page.
