All Change at Ambiguous

Ambiguous founder Frank Delgadillo starts new streetwear brand Comune.

Frank Delgadillo has left Ambiguous and is launching a new brand, Comune. Frank had previously worked on Comune as a creative side project where he did a limited run of denim and T-shirts. Most of the product was sold in Japan. Frank describes the next iteration of Comune as a little darker than Ambiguous. Comune is to launch in fall 2009 with a full collection of denim, T-shirts, knits, wovens, sweaters and jackets.

Most of the Ambiguous team with Comune, including team riders, design staff, marketing staff and most of the sales group including Jacob McCabe, Mike Quinones, Howie Marchbanks, Chris Thomas, Corey Smith, and Jack Mahaffa.
Frank, 36, founded Ambiguous in his dorm room at Chapman University when he was 20. “I’m excited,” Frank said. “I feel like a kid again, like I did when I started Ambiguous, but with more knowledge and capital.”

Meanwhile over at Ambiguous David Patri, formerly of Split takes helm, David founded Split Clothing in 1988.

Patri said the Ambiguous team has built a tremendous legacy of creativity in the market. The focus on street culture and art will continue to be an important component of the line. "We want to continue this legacy and create a line that is unique and forward as well as offer solid, consistent sellers," Patri said in the release. "Collaborating with photographers and artists is key to keeping it fresh and on point. I am committed to throwing off the limitations that have been put on the brand in the past."

For Sping 09 Ambiguous are offering a special high-end T-shirt line that features artists and photographers from around the world called. We will have some basic tees as well along with some carryover cut and sew pieces. We are hoping we can supply our loyal retailers with enough product to maintain Ambiguous.

Patri added “I have always admired the Ambiguous brand. I feel like the brand has always been “real” with it's approach to design and marketing. We see so much of the “smoke and mirrors” in our industry it is refreshing to see a brand that is honest about who they are and who is the target market. This appeals to me and how I approach branding and design.”

Fixed Gear Racing - Ambiguous

It is one of the most basic machines you can build with two wheels. A fixed-gear bike - or fixie - has no derailleur as it has only one gear, so as long as the wheels turn, so do the pedals. Its rider can't freewheel and the only way to brake is to stand on the pedals.

However, as the fixie craze has taken off so has the number of new riders who enter 'alleycats' - unofficial road races consisting of a series of checkpoints on a set route.

Alleycats originated in America and were organised for and by cycle couriers but now inexperienced riders participate. Matthew Manger-Lynch, 29, was killed in a collision with a four-wheel drive after running a red light. He was competing in an alleycat known as Tour Da Chicago. A similar race - the New York Monstertrack, normally the biggest annual alleycat in the US - was

Ambiguous Clothing the story so far

Ambiguous clothing arriving bit by bit just in our tightest jean this season the Jolie with a 15 inch ankle not quite emo but tight, I tried some on and they fit nice it is the way the trend in jeans is going. These have Spandex added to the cotton so they do stretch. Also in a knitted cotton full zip hood and a rather nice shirt but then Ambiguous do make nice shirts so if you have not checked them get on there.

The story of Ambiguous started in the mid 90s with a single word unceremoniously taped above the dorm room bed of founder Frank Delgadillo. “Vague”. Never one to settle into the standard mold, Frank chased the “Pure Dream” of making a living doing the things that make you happy. In his case, making clothes his friends would want to wear. Artists, musicians, skateboarders, snowboarders, surfers - his friends, became his company. And with their help Ambiguous took shape, providing stores with designs that stood out from current trends back in the mid 90s.

With strong roots taking a firm hold, Ambiguous continued to build its name on its design credentials and an indifference to convention and explanation. The raw, fresh clothes gained an underground following within the southern California boarding community and would eventually attract Japanese kids and the attention of the business world.

Ambiguity hasn’t meant obscurity. Fall 2005 marked Ambiguous’ move to a new location - giving the company freedom to breathe deeply in preparation of a brand new era. Ambiguous has returned full circle to the origins of founder Frank Delgadillo and the roots of vague. But the group of friends that started with a dream has grown into a family, the original idea intact and transformed into a constituency given teeth to hit the ground running.
